Event: GLJETAA 2023 Japanese Job Fair
Date: January 29th (Sunday), 2023
Time: 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. (check in from as early as 8:30 a.m.)
Location: Suburban Collection Showplace, 46100 Grand River Ave, Novi, MI 48374-1317. The Job Fair will be located in the Platinum Ballroom on the right-hand side of the venue (Suburban map attached). Parking is free – let the parking attendants know you are there for the GLJETAA Japanese Job Fair. If you need to hang up a coat, there will be coat hangers just inside the entrance. Note: this is not a hybrid or online event.
Check In: Please check in with us at the registration desk just outside the room (see attached floorplan diagram), and write your name on a name tag sticker. Let us know if you are not ok with appearing in group photos. If you have parents or friends accompanying you into the fair, they will also need to check in.
Food/Beverage Policy: We are not permitted to bring outside food or beverages into the venue. A beverage station will be provided in the center of the room with coffee, decaf, hot tea, water, and soda – feel free to help yourself to the drinks. Please eat before/after the event. If you need a snack, please leave the building to do so.
Conduct: Networking with other attendees is encouraged and permitted. However, attendees who have registered as candidates are not permitted to attempt recruiting other candidates for their business during this event or to make solicitations for products or services. Those who do will be asked to leave.
Dress: We ask that you dress in business attire. Business formal wear is highly recommended to make your best impression. (Business formal = suit or suit dress with button-down shirt and dress shoes.)
Schedule: There will be welcoming remarks and a keynote speech at 9:00, but beyond that, you may walk around freely to speak with company representatives at each table. You may wish to bring copies of your resume and practice your elevator pitch, as on-the-spot interviews are a possibility for the right candidates.

Keynote Speaker: Anne Hooghart
Anne M. Hooghart, Ph.D., was an Assistant Language Teacher in Shiga prefecture from 1989-90. Dr. Hooghart has been learning and teaching about Japanese language and culture for over 30 years—as an exchange student, JET Program English teacher, B.A./M.A. student (University of Michigan), doctoral student (Michigan State University), K-12 teacher, college professor, business consultant, translator, community volunteer, and parent of bilingual children. Her current roles include Senior Public Relations Specialist at Education, Culture, and Public Relations section of the Consulate General of Japan in Detroit, online instructor of Japanese at Mott Community College, and Educational Research Coordinator at the Hinoki Foundation.
Anne Hooghart will be available after her speech to review resumes and offer advice.
This job fair is for candidates interested or curious about working in the U.S. at Japanese companies, using the Japanese language in their career, or working in Japan-related fields.
Job seekers will have the opportunity to meet with participating companies, submit their resumes, and network.

We accept registrations up to the moment the job fair is over. If you are signing up after 5 p.m. on 1/28 after we print our sign-in sheets, we will also ask you to write your name down at the registration table on the day of the event for our records. Thanks!
